Eugene A. Woods is Chief Executive Officer of Advocate Health, one of the top five largest nonprofit integrated health system in the United States – created from the combination of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health.

Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Advocate Health has nearly 150,000 teammates serving nearly 6 million patients across 67 hospitals and over 1,000 care locations and offers one of the nation’s largest graduate medical education programs, with over 2,000 residents and fellows across more than 200 programs.

Woods was most recently president and CEO of Atrium Health, which he joined in 2016. He has 30 years of health care leadership experience, having overseen non-profit and for-profit hospitals, academic and community-based delivery systems and rural and urban facilities. He recently received the National Center for Healthcare Leadership’s 2022 Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award. Woods served as chair of the American Hospital Association board of trustees in 2017 and the Nominating Committee, and he is a member of the Health, Strategy and Innovation Committee. He also served as the chair of the Federal Reserve of Bank of Richmond and is currently a member of the Healthcare Institute, the Becker’s Healthcare Advisory Board, the board of Best Buy, the board of Johnson C. Smith University and the Executive Committee of the Healthcare Leadership Council.

Among many other honors and recognitions, Woods has been recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare for seven consecutive years with the last three years in the Top 10, one of the Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare, as well as one of only five “Luminaries” honored for their career-defining work in reshaping the industry.

Woods holds three degrees from Pennsylvania State University: a bachelor’s degree in health planning and administration, a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in health administration and was named an Alumni of the Year by Pennsylvania State University.
